WoW – for all women who identify as lesbian and bisexual in Norwich, Norfolk.

Dancing with Pride: A Celebration of Same-Sex Ballroom and Latin Dancing

Following Norwich Pride in 2009, Miller Dance Centre launched its weekly Same-Sex Ballroom and Latin Dance Classes. We had a wonderful party for LGBT History Month so we’ve decided to do it again for IDAHO Day – International Day Against Homophobia… and Transphobia.

The evening includes a “no fear” dance class followed by a fun social dance. You don’t need to be able to dance, and you don’t need a partner – just turn up and enjoy yourself! Bring your own drinks – nibbles will be provided.

Cost: £5.75 – tickets available on the door.

If you’re able to let us know you’re coming, that will help with planning: either leave a message at Miller Dance on 01603 488249 or visit: www.facebook.com/MillerDanceNorwich

WoW women said they would like a Facebook Forum too, so we’ve done it between us,and you can find it here:

While nothing on facebook is confidential-its definately got its place! Please send us your feedback.
WoW continues to offer confidential email support, and a safe space to meet at WoW drop ins. These spaces are run by volunteers who’s aim is to hold respectful and welcoming space, where we can be ourselves in the company of other women who have relationships with women. Jo

The group will meet every other month at the Library, starting on 21 April from 6-7.30 p.m.
BJ Writes:
“For the first session, please read this short piece: http://carnalnation.com/content/43798/44/when-men-wear-skirts?page=0,1 The session will start at 6 pm on 21 April.
Feel free to contact either of us with questions or to pass this information on to anyone else who might want to attend.
Thank you again! ”
It would be useful to have a mailing list, so email either BJ at B.Epstein@uea.ac.uk or Valentina at v.cardo@uea.ac.ukto let us know whether you would be interested in being part of the group.

NOW Poetry
Vince Laws will lead a monthly poetry group, based in central Norwich, starting on Wednesday 14 April, in the early evening 6pm, and (then every 2nd Wednesday in the month). Vince is a poet and artist, interested in written, visual and performance poetry. He can be contacted at vincelaws@gmail.com.

“I hope as many of you as possible can get to the first meeting on Wednesday night, 6-8pm. We’re meeting at St Margaret’s Church on St Benedict’s Street, because I’m displaying some visual poetry there, so I thought I’d start with a talk on taking poetry off the page, how I started and why, and show some examples. That first hour is open to anyone. 7-8pm we’ll discuss our first project, I am poems (get in touch if you want to have a go, even if you can’t make the meeting, I can email you all the info you need to take part). We are going to consider poems for many voices, read out our own poetry, read other people’s poetry, talk about writing, reading aloud, writing for performance, poster poems, etc, etc. I’ll be at the church from 5.30pm if you get there early. If you get there late, no worries, just slip in and join us. Vince”

Norwich Out Write (NOW)

Norwich Out Write-NOW is a workshop by and for lgbt writers based in Norfolk. Initially, there will be two groups — one for poetry and one for fiction — and these groups will meet monthly to discuss literature and writing, to do writing exercises, and to critique and support the participants’ craft.
NOW Fiction
The NOW fiction workshop will first meet on 22 April at 7 pm at UEA Arts 01.03 at the University of East Anglia. There’s plenty of parking and it is quite easy to find the building (it’s the very long one, but there are maps if you have trouble). The room is on the lower level, called 01.
This will be led by B.J. Epstein.
B.J. writes fiction, essays, and journalism, and is a translator and editor as well as a lecturer in literature and translation at UEA. She can be contacted at B.Epstein@uea.ac.uk

Who can join NOW? Anyone who subscribes to Norwich Pride’s core intention of making Norwich a safe place for everyone. How much will NOW cost? The idea is to cover the costs of the venues etc., so everyone will chip in a couple of quid as required.
