We’re looking for 6 people to tell us their Coming Out stories – one from each of the decades: 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and 2000s – and each story will be made into a 3 minute film with archive photos etc. If you’re interested in getting involved email our filmmaker shell@shellytelly.co.uk or our Pride Historian Kieran at norwichlgbthistory@hotmail.co.uk
BERNICE’S PRIDE FLOAT AT LORD MAYOR’S PROCESSION
We’ll be making history on Saturday 25th July with the first Norwich Pride and we want to “turn Norwich into a Rainbow” and have an exciting and colourful Parade. Bernice at the Catherine Wheel is organising the Norwich Pride Float for the Lord Mayor’s Procession on Saturday 11th July and it’s going to be fantastic. We’ll use all the props and costumes for the Pride Parade on the 25th. Bernice has got a meeting this Thursday (18th June) at 7.30pm at the Wheel for anyone interested in knowing more. We’re looking for loads of people to wear bright tshirts and costumes to follow the float and form a human rainbow so please come along and get involved.

Norwich Pride update

Here’s a message from Norwich Pride, Norfolk:
Hi everyone, it’s Shell from the Pride Collective. Next week is another exciting week in the countdown to Norwich Pride.
On Wednesday 10th June, BBC Voices in the Forum are running a FREE workshop for us: “Movie-making for Pride.” It’s from 10am-3pm. It’s for complete beginners and you will learn how to film and edit. The aim is for us to build a Crew of people who can make a movie about the historic first Norwich Pride on 25th July 2009. If you’re interested email me at
shell@shellytelly.co.uk. Places are limited and you must book one in advance with me.

Also on Wednesday 10th June, we’ve got the first of our Parade Preparation Workshops at the Catherine Wheel between 7.30-9.30pm. Bring your enthusiasm, ideas and materials and we’ll start creating banners, balloons, tshirts and costumes to make the first Pride Parade as colourful and fun as possible. There will be more Parade Preparation workshops on Wednesdays 24th June, 8th July and 22nd July.

Finally, don’t forget we’ve got “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” at Cinema City on Friday 12th June at 8.10pm. It’s a fantastic film and we’ve got a brilliant intro from Ash Crawford so it promises to be another great night “Out at the Movies”

A Day in Hand
Sunday 17th May3pmMillennium Plain (outside the Forum)
Help us support same-sex hand holding. It’s the most powerful statement we can make, and you don’t have to wait until Pride to do it. It feels pretty good too.On 17th May 2009, same-sex couples will take to the streets of the nation for one of the biggest organised same-sex hand holding events in the world. If you’d like to be a part of this please join the Norwich Pride Collective on Millennium Plain outside the Forum at 3pm. If you’re straight, pledge to hold someone’s hand of the same gender for a period of time (even if it’s one minute) and tell us how it made you feel.Upload pics of you and your same-sex partner to www.adayinhand.com

The Times of Harvey Milk
“One of the great documentaries of our time.”- Leonard Maltin (2004)
Sunday 17th May,
5.40pm:
at Cinema City.
If you thought Sean Penn was great playing Harvey Milk, you’ll be amazed by the man himself! This is a rare opportunity to see the the landmark Oscar-winning 1984 documentary on the big screen. Harvey Milk was the first openly gay man elected to political office in California This stirring portrait features remarkable footage of the charming and inspiring ‘Mayor of Castro Street’ himself, first-hand evidence that helps one understand how one man managed to inspire and mobilise so many people. Special introduction from Luke Fitzgerald who’ll tell us what it was like to be a member of the Gay Liberation Front and show some fab archive photos. www.thetimesofharveymilk.com

You don’t have to fight to change the world. Promote love and equality by the simple act of holding hands.
This campaign’s aim is to INSPIRE and SUPPORT same-sex couples who want to hold their partner’s hand in public. Holding hands with your partner, where you can, is about being true to yourself and to those you love. This is not a protest, a rally, a Pride or a march. This is about you and the life you lead every day. Support this campaign by registering with the site
Have a look at the site, take some pics-and maybe send us some too? we won’t publish without your permission tho!May 17th, to coincide with International Day Against Homophobia.
