A Day In Hand, Norwich
Saturday 28th November 2009 International Same Sex hand-holding Day, as part of the Ssssh campaign. You can take part in this event wherever you are in the world. You can be gay or straight. This is an inclusive campaign.
On this day, same-sex couples and friends all over the world are encouraged to hold hands in public to support the visibility of Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Trans (LGBT) people. Sshh! Saturdays will occur on the last Saturday of every month, publicised by A Day In Hand. www.adayinhand.com This is a revolutionary way of encouraging and inspiring LGBT people to take responsibility for their equality and live their lives without fear or restraint. Sshh! Saturdays in major cities will eventually become regarded as an important time when numerous same-sex couples can feel confident in holding hands and be themselves.
Here’s a suggestion-visit the Rainbow Fayre(next post!) in Norwich, then walk down to the WoW Drop-in before it closes at 3.30pm for a cuppa! Jo

A Silent Candle-lit vigil against All Hate-Crime in the Heart of London, Trafalgar Square 8pm to 10pm Friday 30th October 2009To show the world that this criminal behaviour is unacceptable here.To stand shoulder to shoulder to stop this happening again. On Friday 25th September 2009, Ian Baynham, 62, and his friend were subjected to homophobic abuse in Trafalgar Square, London. When Ian challenged this unacceptable behaviour he was assaulted by three youths: two women and a man. He later died of his injuries on 13th October. On Sunday 25 Ocotber, James Parkes, 22, an off-duty trainee police officer, was set upon by a group of up to 20 teenagers in the heart of the gay quarter of Liverpool. James was with his partner, another man and a woman when he was attacked. One of his companions was punched in the face. James is now fighting for his life with multiple skull fractures and other injuries.Ian and James are sadly not alone; They are two among thousands of people who have been victims of hate crime.People from all communities are invited to come together on Friday 30th October to stand up and say that Hate Crime is unacceptable and that we will no longer tolerate it.The vigil, which has received high-profile support and will be hosted by Sandi Toksvig, will include speakers from a wide cross section of the community, and musical contributions from a mass choir bringing together members of the LGBT choir of London, Brighton and Hove, Birmingham and Manchester as well as the London Gay Symphonic Winds. Those unable to attend the event in person, wherever they are in the world, are invited to light candles of hope and observe the two minutes silence, preferably at 9pm GMT.The vigil, in Trafalgar Square, will start at 8pm and will last 2 hours.

Same-sex dancing in Norwich
“Ladies!!!
When was the last time you waltzed the women of your dreams (or any woman for that matter) round the dance floor?; or shared the romance of the rumba?; or the passion of the tango ??
Well now you can in a relaxed and fun environment!
The Miller Centre on Drayton Rd, Norwich are running a ballroom and latin class for the Lesbian and Gay community on Friday nights from 7.30 – 8.30. The cost is £7.00 for the class and there’s an opportunity to practice afterwards. The class started at the end of July and so far a small group of regulars have tackled some basics in Cha Cha, Waltz, Jive and Social Foxtrot.
Come and join us! Don’t worry about joining in after the start. There are lots of new dances yet to come and we go over previous steps so nobody feels left out,and
you don’t need to come with a partner as we swap around.
There are very few opportunities for same sex dancing outside London so take the chance and come and discover (or re-discover) the joys of partner dancing. You can get details of the class from the Miller Centre-
Ropemaker’s Row, off Drayton Road. NR3 2DG. Phone 01603 488269, or just turn up!
