The Big Sew-up

Saturday 24th July, Knit with Pride, St Thomas Church Hall, Earlham Rd, 11.30-3.30pm (free)

It’s time for the big sew-up. 1000+ squares knitted by hundreds of people across Norfolk (and Germany!) will be arranged and sewn into a giant rainbow scarf about 30 metres long that will be wrapped round the pillars of City Hall on Saturday 31st July. A Crude Apache double bill to celebrate the second Norwich Pride. Before the interval you can enjoy Gay Play by writer / director Chantal Schaul. This camp and flamboyant comedy in one act takes you from doctor’s surgery to erotic garden to medieval torture dungeon, meeting some truly grotesque characters along the way. After the interval you will be taken to the sleazy clubs and stages of 1930s Berlin in For Adults Only: The Weimar Years. This brand new show by the Crude Apache Broadcasting Corporation features sketches and songs by Beverly Nichols, Lady Kitty Vincent and, of course, darling Noel Coward. Hannah Dee is a leading LGBT campaigner and activist. A leading member of the Socialist Worker’s Party, she has will be speaking about her recently published book ‘The Red in the Rainbow’.
15.45 – 16.30 Literature and young people – what is out there?
Dr BJ Epstein, UEA Lecturer in Literature and Translation, looks at what children’s literature is available for LGBT families.
16.30 – 17.30 Labels are for Soup Cans?
A variety of speakers debate about how the LGBT community label themselves and whether this progresses equality. You are most welcome to share your views!

Shell and Vince’s interactive, multimedia coming out project for
Norwich Pride opens at the Arts Centre on Friday 23rd July and you’re
all invited to our Launch Party the night before. Councillor Jeremy
Hooke will officially open the exhibition; BLAH Youth Group are going
to tell us what it’s like to come out as a teenager in 2010; the
Killer Queens will perform FREE, the official Norwich Pride 2010
single written by Kenny about coming out; and Vince will perform
poetry. And we’ve got limited edition OUT140 tshirts being printed

The Cutting Room Returns after all the fun of the Fringe with a very
special event to complement the existing Norwich Pride arrangements.
We cringe into our rainbow themed items to bring you the first ever
Norwich Gay Shame Festival- “Swallow Your Pride”!! Why not come down?
It will be inclusive, if nothing else.
Featuring: An interactive exploration of Gay Shame in the form of a
Workshop by Lesbian Feminist Comedian Hilary Koe. A performance by Gay
Shame Poet Laureate Vince Laws. Luke Fitzgerald discussing his time in
the Gay Liberation Front. And finally, your headline act for the
evening will be the incredible Maddie Cassell with a selection of
songs, sung with shame. Your host for the evening will be Paul
“Everybodys Favourite Fat Hairy Gay” Knight. Feeling Oppressed? You
ain’t seen nothin yet.
