WoW – for all women who identify as lesbian and bisexual in Norwich, Norfolk.

LGBT Writing Workshop

BJ send news of the new terms beginning for the fiction writing group-
“Hi all, let’s schedule it for 5 pm. If you need to come a bit later, that is completely fine. Just arrive when you can.
“I have put in a booking request for room 2.01 on the second floor of the arts building. If this changes, I will let you know.
“On 27 Sept, let’s talk about flash fiction and prose poems. The reason for this is that we will need short pieces for the lgbt anthology that our group is putting together along with Vince’s poetry group. So I encourage you to read up a bit on flash fiction and/or prose poetry and to start working on some short pieces of writing. You are not required to submit to the anthology, of course, but if you want to have work in it, you will need to submit in October.
See you in a few weeks!

Best wishes,
BJ

Norwich OUT write Poetry group

Next Norwich Pride Out Write poetry group meeting is on Sunday 5 September at 2-4pm at 10 Cathedral Street, Norwich.

Vince Writes:
We’ve got a new home. I went to see Fiona and Sarah at TEN today, which is a 10 Cathedral Street, Norwich, just off Prince of Wales Rd, and we will meet there on the first Sunday of every month from 2-4pm. basically there’s one room with 4 sofas and a coffee table, there’s a small kitchen, and a toilet, which is on the ground floor, one step, but no wheelchair toilet. We can help ourselves to coffee and tea, leave it as we find it. It will cost just £5, so we can talk about what we want to pay at the next meeting…

remember you don’t have to come every time… drop in and drop out. I’ve gone for 2-4pm cos Pride sometimes have Sunday meeting from 5pm… so people can do both. I’ll be there at least 15 minutes early. Be careful parking there on Sunday, some of the bays are resident only on Sundays.

So the next Norwich Pride Out Write poetry group meeting is on Sunday 5 September at 2-4pm at 10 Cathedral Street, Norwich. And bring in ideas for our anthology. I haven’t thought about it yet myself…. but I will come in with something…. if you’re really stuck we can talk about it that Sunday, have a brainstorming on ways to start a poem, get ideas going.

Sunday 5 September at 2-4pm
Sunday 3 October at 2-4pm
Sunday 7 November at 2-4pm bonfire night?
Sunday 5 December at 2-4pm Xmas Party!
Sunday 2 january – i don’t think so, do you?!

We worked with Nick at the Norfolk Library in Norwich, for their Norwich Pride exhibition of our chosen books. He’s asked us to post another event:

“We have another project that you might be able to help us with. It is called the Human Library (you may have heard about it – there was one at Pride this year). The Human Library attempts to challenge prejudice by encouraging dialogue between two individuals. It works just like a normal library, only Books are people and reading is conversation.

“On 3rd November Norwich is hosting the UK’s biggest ever Human Library and we are hoping to recruit more books. We already have a few from the LGBT community – 2 ‘Trans’ books, 2 ‘lesbian’ books, a ‘Gay Man’, ‘HIV Positive’. (Forgive the labelling but that is how the book titles appear). We want to recruit more books for this event so I was wondering if you might help.

“Could you ask you contacts if anyone would be keen to get involved in this project – it really is very exciting stuff. For more information please visit www.humanlibrary.org

Best wishes

Hi,
I am a postgraduate student from Glamorgan University and I am currently completing an MSc Psychology project on LGBTQ Health and Relationships.

The survey asks gay, lesbian, bisexual, or woman / man who sleep with other women /men, who are aged 18 or above to tell us about their health and relationships. Not a lot is known about the health of LGBTQ people, even less is know about their relationships. The aim of this survey is to better understand same sex relationships and when things go wrong. It explores different levels of domestic violence within same sex relationships in the context of alcohol use, mental and general health, and gender.

I would be very grateful if you could share the survey link with your organisation and networks. We have both an online and a paper version and can produce alternative formats should they be needed. Below is the address to the online version but if you would prefer I can send you paper copies with a free post return.

All answers are confidential and you will not be able to be identified from the information you provide.

Hi all, here’s a message from Fi at the the Norfolk LGBT Project……

Helloooooo

Norfolk LGBT Project has put together a survey for young LGBT people aged 25 and under. In order to expand and improve our services we would be grateful if you could complete the survey. The link is available on BLAH Facebook Group:

http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/group.php?gid=23134684061

Mucho thank you.

hello
H writes to us:
“I have been sent a questionnaire for lesbians over 60 as part of research being done by a woman at the University of Sussex. She herself is a lesbian over 60. The idea is to build the first comprehensive picture of older lesbian life in Britain. Currently we are invisible!
The questionnaire is confidential and no names are required.
There’s a good website http://www.womenlikethat.co.uk/ which tells you more about it.
With all the wonderful groups springing up as a result of Pride maybe there’s still room for an older women’s group.Women over 60 might want to meet up once a month in various parts of East Anglia?”
Jane who is doing the survey has had an encouraging response, so please help-and let us know if any of you would like an older womens network, or to organise one with our help and support at wownorwich@hotmail.com
