Women on women has recieved an update on Norwich Pride!
“Hello from the Norwich Pride Collective – a bunch of enthusiastic, creative, slightly stressed volunteers. Here’s this week’s news-
Website and Leaflet
The historic, first Norwich Pride is approaching fast and it sounds like it’s going to be a wonderful, happy day. Our new website www.norwichpride.org.uk is filling up with information about all the events and our listings leaflets is at the printers. If you would like copies of the leaflet or poster to stick up in your workplace/local shops + post offices etc then please email us at norwichpride@hotmail.co.uk or leave a message with the lovely Matt on on the Pride Hotline 07772804759.
Buddy Nights
Talking of Matt, he and Jojo have organised a couple of Buddy Nights at Cafe Bar Marzannos, Saturdays 11th (Jil and Matt) and 18th July, 6.30pm-8.30pm. They write: “If you’re thinking about coming to Pride, and not sure who to go with, or have any questions-perhaps you’re not out, but still would like to be part of this years Pride in some way-come and meet us! We’ll be in the cafe bar, wearing rainbow ribbons-just turn up, or email Norwich Pride to let us know you’d like to come. Informal and friendly.”
Lord Mayor’s Carnival
If you’d prefer to be out on the streets on Saturday 11th, then join Norwich Pride on the Lord Mayor’s Procession. Bernice from the Catherine Wheel is planning a fabulous float with a huge silver stiletto throne for a drag queen. We want a human rainbow to follow the float so if you are around on Saturday evening and have got a Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple tshirt/wig/bikini etc then please meet us on Newmarket Rd about 6pm – look for the float with the huge silver stiletto. City Hall are excited “Cant wait to see your float! Finally a drag queen in the carnival – only took 320 years!”
Camp it Up Cabaret
Our pals at Hocus Pocus Theatre have asked us to remind you to buy your tickets asap for their ‘Camp It Up Cabaret’ at the Norwich Arts Centre on Friday 24th July 2009. With their unique blend of theatre, comedy, song and dance, you’ll be tickled pink at this outlandish vaudevillian romp.
Cinema City
Talking of tickets. Cinema City are reporting good advance sales for their films during Norwich Pride – a digitally remastered print of “Priscilla Queen of the Desert” on Thursday 23rd and a new Canadian romance “To Each Her Own” on the Sunday.
Same Sex Ballroom and Latin Dancing
One of the loveliest things about Norwich Pride is the way that it is inspiring organisations like Cinema City to run regular events such as their monthly “Out at the Movies”. We’re very excited to tell you that there is another new activity starting in Norwich soon – Same Sex Ballroom and Latin Dancing at the Miller Dance Centre every Friday from 31st July. Email enquiries@millerdance.co.uk for more details.
Singing with Pride
The “Singing with Pride” workshop went really well – still can’t stop humming the tune we learnt with Anthar – and people are very keen to start a Pride Choir. If you are interested email heather.ford@hotmail.co.uk.
Pride Dogwalk
The Pride Dogwalk is confirmed for Sunday 26th July at 11am, meeting at the Compleat Angler on Prince of Wales Rd and walking along riverside, past Pulls Ferry and the Cathedral and up onto Mousehold Heath for some lovely photo opportunities. Award-winning dogtrainer Jo Belsten from “Mutts with Manners” will be on hand if you need tips with training and grooming and we might even get her to give out some prizes for things like cutest pooch and best trick. Contact diana.cunningham@ntlworld.com for more details.
FUSION at the Forum
Finally we need your help to create an amazing multimedia timeline at FUSION in the Forum. We’re going to turn Europe’s biggest, free public screen into a rainbow and we want to your stories and pics to fill the screen. We’re creating a timeline from 28th July 1967 (Sexual Offences Act) to 25th July 2009 (first Norwich Pride) We’ve got several people lined up to tell tales from each of the 5 decades but we are looking for literally hundreds more people to send in their pics and tell us about key moments in their life, including the year they happened. You can upload your stories and pics to the “Norwich Pride FUSION film” Facebook Group or email them to shell@shellytelly.co.uk or send them to Norwich Pride c/o TEN, 10 Cathedral St, Norwich NR1 ILX.
See you all soon!
