Queer Messages: LGBTQ Characters in Children’s Literature by B.J. Epstein
How are non-heterosexualities portrayed in children’s literature? Which non-heterosexualities are featured and why? And does all this depend on which country the texts are from? What messages do these books offer children? In this paper, I will analyse books from the United States and the United Kingdom that feature lgbtq youth and/or lgbtq adults. I will analyse how queerness is explained and/or defined in these works and how the queer characters are portrayed.
